Saturday Sky, Friday Party.

Today is a little cold. Nowhere near what I am used to in January (-20*C to -40*C), but I'm liking it. What's not to love about not being so cold you can hardly breathe? The sun is coming up earlier and by the end of February, it will be up too early for me to take pictures of sunrises.

This is Girly's cake on her actual birthday. She loved the carrots and ate all the icing off the cake, but left the cake behind. We gave her a few gifts too so it would feel like her day and she loved the e-cards from family and friends and all the good wishes from you.

For her party, we didn't go crazy on the decorations. Some streamers and balloons, but the girls loved it all. I did the party in Dora's colours. Purple, pink, orange and yellow. The colours she wears all the time. The balloons were a big hit. I cut the ties on some of them so that they could play with them without pulling down the streamers and after dinner, I brought out the rest of the balloons and let them go nuts.

Dinner was a success. There was Ceaser Salad, three pizzas (This one is sun-dried tomato, chicken breast and green onion. Yummy!), Triple Citrus Cheesecake, Shortbread Men, Berry Punch juice and a triple citrus & grape punch. Recipe at the end.

Her Dora cake topped off dinner. I put on extra candles so that all the girls could help blow them out.

They did and they were happy to help.

I didn't try any organized games since they are still too young for that to be a good idea. Everyone had a good time and plenty to eat. The gifts were plentiful and beautiful. One of them was a hit with all three and had to be removed from the room before a fist fight ensued. It was a Sleeping Beauty dress up kit with it's own trunk. I took the shoes out and found Girly's other dress up shoes. Tempers were soothed and they all felt extra pretty. The little Mr. couldn't come back after he got picked up, but he got to have some balloons and a little bag of gifts to take home with him so he was happy. I believe that means the party was a success.
We are both extra tired this morning even though we both slept in so we are skipping Kindergym. Probably a good thing since we have another party to go to this afternoon.

Triple Citrus Punch

2 lemons
2 limes
2 oranges
1 can frozen no-pulp orange juice
1 can frozen white grape juice
1 bottle ginger ale

Two - three hours before the party, thinly slice one lemon, lime and orange. Put them into a freezer bag and place in the freezer. Grate zest of other lemon, lime and orange into ice cube tray and fill with water then freeze. Squeeze fruits into a small bowl or directly into your punch bowl.

Empty cans of frozen juice into a large punch bowl. Add two cans of water and mix well or let sit until the frozen juice thaws then mix. Just before serving, top up punch bowl with ginger ale and add frozen fruit slices and zest ice cubes.

  • That looks like a great party. My daughter got that same trunk when she turned 3, and it has been put to very good use. I hope that your Girly will enjoy her trunk as much as mine has.

I'm happy for you that it is comparatively warm. I was dreading the winter for you but it sounds like it is cooperating to ease your pain a little.
